🚌💛 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK | OCTOBER 19–23 💛🚌🚔 The Oak Hill Police Department reminds everyone that school bus safety is everyone’s responsibility! As we recognize School Bus Safety Week, let’s work together to keep our students safe as they travel to and from school.📢 Here are some important school bus safety tips:🚍 For Drivers:🔹 Stop for school buses! When a school bus displays flashing red lights and extends its stop arm, stop and remain stopped as required by Ohio law.🔹 Never pass a stopped school bus while children are boarding or getting off.🔹 Slow down and watch for children near schools, bus stops, and residential areas.🔹 Be alert for flashing yellow lights, which indicate that the bus is preparing to stop.🔹 Never drive distracted. Put your phone away and keep your eyes on the road.🔹 Watch for children crossing the street in front of or behind a school bus.🎒 For Students:🔹 Arrive at the bus stop early and wait in a safe place away from the roadway.🔹 Stand at least 10 feet away from the bus until the driver signals that it is safe to approach.🔹 Use the handrails when getting on or off the bus.🔹 If you must cross the road, cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus, make eye contact with the driver, and look both ways before crossing.🔹 Never run toward or after a moving bus.👨👩👧👦 For Parents:🔹 Remind children to stay away from the road while waiting for the bus.🔹 Make sure children know their bus stop and understand how to cross the street safely.🔹 Teach children to stay out of the driver’s blind spots and never retrieve dropped items near or underneath the bus without alerting the driver.💛 Remember: A few extra seconds can save a life! 🔥 OHIO BURN BAN REMINDER 🔥The Oak Hill Police Department would like to remind everyone that Ohio’s seasonal open-burning restrictions are in effect during the months of October and November.🚫 NO OPEN BURNING BETWEEN 6:00 AM AND 6:00 PM.If you are planning to burn during these months, please make sure you are following all applicable Ohio open-burning regulations and local requirements.A few important reminders:• 🔥 Do not burn during the restricted 6 AM–6 PM hours.• 🍂 Only burn materials that are legally permitted to be burned.• 🚫 Do not burn household garbage, plastics, tires, rubber, or other prohibited materials.• 💨 Be mindful of smoke and weather conditions so your fire does not create a hazard for neighbors, roadways, or nearby property.• 🧯 Always have a means of extinguishing the fire readily available.• 🚒 Never leave a fire unattended, and make sure it is completely extinguished when you are finished.These seasonal restrictions are intended to help reduce the risk of fires and smoke-related problems during Ohio’s spring and fall burn seasons. Ohio regulations restrict open burning during specified daytime hours in October and November. Please help us keep Oak Hill and our surrounding community safe.
